Othaya MP Mary Wambui yesterday clashed with Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa for referring to her as ‘Wambui Kibaki’ during debate.
The Othaya MP rose to make a statement demanded the name Kibaki be withdrawn from the Hansard .
She told MPs she is “a saved Christian and an active member of the PCEA church,” and quoted scripture on the floor of the House. “I have worked hard to get where I am today,” Wambui said.
But Wamalwa said he did not mean she is related to the former President but is heading a constituency where Mwai Kibaki is the former MP.
In 2009, President Kibaki denied ever having another wife or wives when he called a press conference accompanied by his ailing wife Lucy Kibaki. However, contrary to the press conference at the time, evidence pointed otherwise to President Kibaki having a second family in plain site. Mary Wambui was widely known to be the second one to Lucy Kibaki with a grown daughter, allegations she continues to deny.
