Cyrus Jirongo has sensationally claimed that gunmen who killed an American teacher in the presence of his daughter in Nairobi might have been sent by his political enemies.

The  politician also claimed that his daughter has been receiving threatening messages from an unknown number.

Mr Jirongo made the claims during an interview with Jeff Koinange on the JKL show on Wednesday night.

The American teacher, Mr Cameron Chase Huntley, was shot dead early this month in Lavington by gunmen on a motorbike while walking to a restaurant with his girlfriend Sally Jirongo for breakfast.

The gunmen shot him in the head knocking him down and then shot him twice on the chest and stomach. They then jumped onto their motorcycle and fled, running over Mr Huntley as they escaped towards Nakumatt Junction.

The incident happened near Riara School at around 11am.

Mr Huntley, who was a teacher at Language Centre Riara, was from Buncombe County in North Carolina.

The killers are still at large and Mr Jirongo has faulted the police for conducting the investigations in a “casual manner”.

“That was an assassination and my daughter is really traumatised,” he said during the interview.

“Two people on a bodaboda bypassed them on the road then stopped a few metres ahead. They then demanded for the laptop the man was carrying, when he hesitated, they shot him several times.”

“Worse, my daughter who is now in North Carolina for the burial, receives a threatening text message the following day. We forwarded the same to the CID but they can only claim it’s from Kamiti,”

“The era of assassinations is back. I believe there are much better ways we can handle differences without killing people,”Jirongo concluded.
