The International Justice Mission has launched a global online petition calling for swift conviction of those involved in themurders of Lawyer Willie Kimani, Josphat Mwenda, and Joseph Muiruri .
Through the petition, IJM has also called for the immediate removal of deputy Inspector of Police Samuel Arachi.
“Today, we have four AP officers charged with murder after a three-week investigation, and that hasn’t happened in the history of Kenya. This marks an important occasion for police accountability in our country,” James Kironji, director of casework for IJM Kenya said.
The petition at http://www.justiceinkenya.org has been signed by 37,520 people so far and they aim to reach the 50,000 mark.
The mission also wants the government to address the impunity of corrupt Kenyan police and the rising cases of police brutality .
They have also called for thorough investigations of additional suspects believed to have helped the four perpetuate the heinous act.
“We still believe there are more perpetrators involved in the deaths of our colleagues, and we ask authorities to do everything in their power to bring them to justice,” Kironji said.
Four AP officers—Fredrick Leliman, Stephen Cheburet, Silvia Wanjiku and Leonard Mwangi—were charged today with three counts of murder by the High Court for the disappearance and death of the three.
