Traffic snarl-up as sand transporters block Mombasa Road

Today the same sand barons have blocked Mombasa Road at Kautandini near Salama Town to protest harassment by Makueni County officials when in fact they are the ones harassing the government workers.

The protest, which started at 1am Friday, has caused a major traffic snarl-up on Mombasa Road.

According to the police, the transporters cite harassment by the county officials over harvesting and transportation of sand but they don’t mention they burned government vehicles overnight.

Salama Traffic Base Commander Joseph Nyasili said no vehicles are moving as the transporters have used their trucks to block the busy highway.

“They say that they will not move the trucks from the road until they are addressed by Makueni governor,” he told the press on phone.
