Tuesday December 6, 2016 – United States President-elect, Donald Trump, has nominated a Kenyan American for the position of Housing Secretary in his Cabinet.
According to an announcement by Fox News, Trump nominated renowned neurosurgeon, Benny Carson, for the position of Housing Secretary on Monday morning.
“Ben Carson has a brilliant mind and is passionate about strengthening communities” Trump said in statement.
“Ben shares my optimism about the future of our country and is part of ensuring that this is a Presidency representing all Americans,” Trump added.
Carson is the first African-American to be nominated into Mr Trump’s Cabinet.
He endorsed Mr Trump in March after ending his own bid for the White House.
During his republican presidential campaigns, Carson admitted that his great great grandfather originated from Turkana before he went to America during the slave trade.
“My ancestors are from the Kenya-Tanzania region, the Turkana tribe,” Carson said in a speech in December last year.
